This WP aims at creating a framework into which GREENUS project will be developed and delivered, adopting an operative approach since the beginning of the eligible period. During this WP, a complete and in-depth analysis of local needs and deficiencies in Vietnam and Myanmar with respect to waste management was drafted. This analysis also highlighted the inadequacies with respect to waste management education and laboratory practices. As a preparatory activity, WP1 is considered as a limited period to initiate the three main objectives of the project: 1. delivery of new courses on Waste Management; 2. creation of local innovative labs for training and research in the Region; 3. enhancing a close connection between Universities and labor market.

The Eco-Campus will be a small pilot project developed inside the campuses of the five Universities involved, and foresees to install recycling bins and posters in strategic points of the campus showing why is important to separate waste an how to do it in the correct way, in English and local languages. The central objective of a solid waste action plan is to maximize resource recovery (i.e. the proportion of solid waste stream recovered for high resource value use), with the corollary that this minimizes waste disposal to landfill. The main strategy is to apply the “waste hierarchy” – avoid purchasing products which will end up as waste, repair and reuse, then recycle, and finally if there are no other options, dispose. The development of each Eco-Campus will follow the latest version of the Greening Universities Toolkit - Transforming Universities into Green and Sustainable Campuses, developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The WP3 aims at preparing the educational environment to teach GREENUS topics. Detailed education and training materials, on the basis of the syllabi developed during the WP1, will be designed and finalized, and innovative laboratories will be installed. Partners will develop 6 courses that include not only technical contents but also economic aspects, procedures, laws, regulations, and social impacts of waste management in a full circular economic perspective. Each course will correspond at least to a minimum of 3 ECTS (or equivalent).

The courses prepared during the WP3 will be delivered by members of staff in the Asian Partner Universities. At least 15 students per Asian University will attend each course. EU partners, professors, and academic staff from other beneficiary Universities will be invited as experts for thematic seminars as well as for delivering specific lectures. Info-days to encourage students’ enrolment will be organized and the opening of the new 5 modules will be announced on the project website and media. Registered students will be selected following internal regulations and procedures established at each Beneficiary University. Students will be required to possess a good level of English and female participation will be supported.

This WP aims at widening the activities of GREENUS and involving the local/regional communities, SMEs/companies, and local authorities. European-based training will be provided for selected PhD students. A technical workshop at each Asian University will be organized for local companies to inform them about innovative collection and treatment systems and potential new economic value of waste, in order to promote new sustainable business and help the local economy. Two short online courses will be prepared and used to disseminate waste management information to schools, social groups, and local communities.

This WP will outline the strategy on how the quality control mechanisms will be applied so that the operational, management, and working procedures are comprehensively monitored and improved throughout the project duration. The Quality Assurance Plan will define the general approach to quality control, internal and external evaluation, and the procedures to be followed by the partners for effective communication as well as production and documentation of the project deliverables.

The dissemination of results and outcomes to various audiences is critical to maximize the impact of GREENUS approach and promoting sustainability beyond the duration of the project. The dissemination strategy of the project consists of the following five components: • objectives of dissemination: identify the GREENUS dissemination objectives, • target audience: identify the target groups and bodies that may be interested in the project; • key messages: identify core project messages for each specific target audience • tools: identify dissemination tools, methods, and channels • timing: identify a plan of dissemination activities and the responsibilities of the partners.

The objective of WP8 is to assure the project management in respect to controlling, contractual management, communication, and resources management. Accordingly, WP8 interacts with all the WPs and is led by the Project Coordinator. The specific objectives of WP8 are:• coordination of the project consortium composed of 8 project partners working on interdependent tasks, • implementing an effective financial and cost reporting controlling, • ensuring an appropriate quality of the results achieved, • ensuring an effective communication with project partners and EACEA, • coordinating the submission of the technical and financial reports.
